Over the past few years, as we helped many more clients work with several different private banks, it became clear that a mortgage broker specialising in higher complex clients was an exciting opportunity for the right person who knew the right people.
Private Bank policies are often more comprehensive than those offered through retail channels, and in parallel, clients who suit private banks are more likely to have more complex personal affairs regarding how they earn income and manage their assets. At the same time, they prefer to deal in a way that often doesn't suit traditional mortgage broking and is highly collaborative with other advisers.
If we could find the right person to match and deliver a private banking broker experience, with extensive technical knowledge in private banking, it could be a winner. However, we also needed to find a skill set that would enable them to win over clients by addressing complex issues with clarity and trust, and acting independently to hold private banks accountable for their rates.
In 2024, one of the biggest wins for the team here was Matthew Mohl joining to lead the alcove Private division.
Matt was the CBA Private Bank Director of the Year. Still, he now has the power to deliver an independent, strategic, and client-first approach to C-suite executives, family offices, and established professionals, not tied to one bank, but to every private bank.
This month, Matt has settled two highly complex deals exceeding $20 million each, which are already larger than any deal I have ever handled in my first year.
Matt is opening doors that we never knew were possible in this space.
But overall, what I love about working with Matt is how he wins people over with his humour, honesty, and integrity.
